A calendar behaves differently from most advertising materials. Nobody has to be persuaded to use it - if it suits a need, it hangs on a wall or sits on a desk and recalls your company every time someone glances at it.
Types and who they suit
- Wall calendar - highly visible, at home in offices, workshops and service points.
- Desk calendar - within reach, handy for noting appointments.
- Diary style calendar - for people who plan day by day and carry it with them.
- Three month calendar - shows several months at once, useful for planning ahead.
In practice two types are often chosen at once: something for the wall for company offices and something smaller for people who work out in the field. Knowing how many recipients fall into each group makes that choice simpler.
What makes one stay
People keep the calendar that is comfortable, not the one that advertises loudest. Leave plenty of room for notes, mark days off clearly and keep artwork away from the grid of dates. The logo only needs to appear once, calmly placed, because it will be seen daily for many months.
Planning ahead
The calendar season starts early: photographs have to be prepared, recipient lists confirmed and internal approvals collected. The sooner the type is settled, the calmer the rest of the choices become. If you also send cards at the end of the year, it is worth designing both together.
