Pendrive ECO Merbau - natural wood instead of plastic

Merbau is a hardwood with a warm brown colour and a pronounced grain. On a drive, that means something a uniform plastic casing cannot give: individual pieces are not visually identical.

One may be a little lighter, another darker, another with more pronounced grain. That is a natural property of real wood, not a defect.

Under the wooden casing is memory with a USB 3.2 gen.1 interface. The bus supports up to 5 Gb/s, making larger material far more comfortable to copy than over USB 2.0. Actual read and write speeds depend on the memory used, the capacity and the device the drive is connected to.

Capacities run from 16 to 128 GB, so the same model covers a presentation and documents as well as a much larger library of photographs, film or training material.

Where it fits

Companies running ESG and CSR programmes, where a wooden casing sits better in a company set than a typical plastic item; environmental conferences and events, carrying presentations, reports, training material and documentation; industries where the material is part of the image - furniture, interiors, craft, wine, slow fashion and premium products; and welcome packs for new staff.

Personalisation

The wooden casing can be marked two ways.

Laser engraving works directly into the surface of the wood, so the logo or text is not an added layer on the casing but part of the material. The result is single-colour and suits the natural character of merbau. Because each piece has a slightly different shade and grain, the engraving too can look marginally different from one drive to the next.

UV printing is the option when the logo needs several colours, gradients or richer artwork - full colour in CMYK. On natural wood the colours can look different from how they appear on a pure white surface, so take the colour and texture of the casing into account when choosing this method.

Both methods are available on one side or both.

Preparing the engraving file

• a vector PDF,
• vector graphics only,
• artwork in black,
• no greyscale,
• text converted to curves.

The black elements mark the areas to be engraved; the rest of the surface is left untouched.

Preparing the UV print file

• artwork in CMYK,
• file at 1:1 scale,
• photographs at 300-600 dpi,
• text converted to curves.

Capacities

For a presentation and documents alone, 16 GB is usually ample. The larger versions make sense mainly when the drive carries film, high-resolution photography or extensive training material.

Why wood?

Wood gives a drive a completely different character from plastic or aluminium. It feels warm, has visible structure, and over time can pick up the small marks of use typical of a natural material.

The first version usually comes within 1-2 working days; each further round of changes adds one working day. Production starts only once the proof is approved.
