Prestige bookmarks - elegance you can feel in the hand

Prestige bookmarks are the more decorative version of the classic bookmark. Instead of standard paper we use stocks with a character of their own: they can shimmer gently, have a metallic surface, ribs you can feel, a linen structure or a soft, felt-marked texture.

You can see the difference, but you can also simply feel it in the hand. It is the paper that makes even a sparing design with a logo, a quotation and a QR code look far more distinguished.

Bookmarks like these suit bookshops, publishers, libraries, museums, galleries, hotels, literary cafés, authors, illustrators, photographers and brands that care a great deal about how their materials are presented.

The 200×50 mm format - slim and convenient

We make Prestige bookmarks in one classic format:

• 200×50 mm - a slim, vertical size suited to most books.

The bookmark sits comfortably between the pages while leaving enough room for a logo, an illustration, a quotation, a QR code, a website address or a short message.

The narrow format looks best with tidy designs. Legible typography, one stronger graphic element and a sensible amount of text all work well. Small text and too much decoration are best avoided, especially since in the Prestige version the paper is already an important part of the design.

Families of decorative paper

The most important element of Prestige bookmarks is the paper. The families differ in surface, colour and the way they reflect light.

ICEBLINK

A cream paper with a delicate linen-like structure. It has a warm, calm character.

It suits literary, artistic, hotel, wedding and gift bookmarks, especially where the design is to be classic and elegant.

STARDREAM

The family of pearlescent and metallic papers.

• STARDREAM OPAL - a subtle, delicate sheen.
• STARDREAM SILVER - a cooler, metallic character.
• STARDREAM CRYSTAL - a light, clean stock with a subtler look.
• STARDREAM GOLD - a stronger, decorative effect suited to gift, festive and more distinguished designs.

These are papers that work well when the sheen of the stock itself is meant to play a large part in the design.

RIVES Shetland Natural

Papers with a natural, decorative structure.

The lighter version has a more delicate character, while the heavier paper is stiffer and feels more solid.

RIVES goes well with literary, publishing, company and more natural designs.

DALI

The distinctive feature of these papers is their delicate, fine ribs.

The perla, candido, camoscio and Ghaccio shades suit elegant, bookshop, library and occasional bookmarks. Verde pino gives a stronger green accent that goes well with botanical, natural and creative designs.

MODIGLIANI

Papers with a soft, felt-marked surface.

The candido, bianco, perla and camoscio shades suit publishing, artistic, commemorative and more distinguished bookmarks.

CHAGALL Bianco

A light paper with a subtle, felt-marked surface.

It is a fairly versatile stock for literary, company, museum, gallery, wedding and occasional bookmarks, if you want a light paper but not a completely smooth surface.

If you are not sure where to start, the light papers will be the most versatile. Choose STARDREAM if you want a pearl or metallic effect. ICEBLINK, RIVES, DALI, MODIGLIANI and CHAGALL are worth considering when a texture you can feel matters more.

Single or double-sided printing

Prestige bookmarks can be ordered in two versions:

• Single-sided printing - the full-colour design is on one side. It works well on simple bookmarks with a logo, a quotation, an illustration, a QR code, a book title or a website address.
• Double-sided printing - the print is on both sides. One can carry an illustration or a quotation and the other contact details, a QR code, a discount code, social media or news of a forthcoming book.

In the double-sided version it is worth planning both sides as one design rather than treating them as two independent surfaces.

Remember too that the colour, sheen and texture of the paper affect the look of the print. On pearlescent, metallic, cream, felt-marked or ribbed papers the colours can look different than on classic white coated stock.

Designs with good contrast, legible typography and colours matched to the particular stock work best.

The Prestige effect without lamination

We do not laminate Prestige bookmarks.

That is not an arbitrary limit. In this category the decorative effect comes from the paper itself: its pearl quality, metallic surface, felt-marked structure, ribs or linen texture.

Film would change exactly those qualities. It would smooth the surface, partly hide the structure and affect the way the paper reflects light and feels in the hand.

So we leave the surface without an extra coating. The bookmark then keeps the character of the stock that was the reason for choosing that paper in the first place.

How to match the paper to the design

It is worth starting from the effect the finished bookmark should give.

• Elegant, classic and company bookmarks - STARDREAM OPAL, STARDREAM CRYSTAL, RIVES Shetland Natural, DALI candido, MODIGLIANI candido or bianco and CHAGALL Bianco all suit well.
• More decorative, festive and gift designs - you can use STARDREAM GOLD, STARDREAM SILVER or STARDREAM CRYSTAL. The metallic or pearlescent surface then becomes a clear part of the design.
• Artistic, natural and literary bookmarks - these go well with ICEBLINK, RIVES Shetland Natural, DALI perla, DALI camoscio, DALI verde pino, MODIGLIANI camoscio or MODIGLIANI perla.

On darker, coloured and metallic stocks, contrast matters especially. Very thin lines, small text and subtle, light elements can be harder to read than on ordinary white paper.

For bookshops, libraries and publishers

Prestige bookmarks fit naturally with material connected to books. You can add them to publications or hand them out at launches, author meetings, fairs or reading events.

• Bookshops - an elegant addition to a book someone has bought, a place for a QR code to your shop, a promotion or a loyalty scheme.
• Libraries - material for anniversaries, reading competitions, educational programmes and campaigns promoting reading.
• Publishers - bookmarks prepared for a book launch, a particular series, a limited edition or a meeting with an author.

A well designed bookmark also has the advantage that the reader can use it for a long time, so it stays part of the book even after the event or campaign is over.

Prestige bookmarks also work as a small addition to parcels.

The decorative stock makes an addition like that clearly different from an ordinary leaflet.

How to prepare the file, and the design check

The design is best prepared as a PDF that follows our specification, in CMYK. Photographs and artwork should be at 300 dpi at 1:1 scale.

If a background or artwork runs to the edge, add the right amount of bleed. Move the logo, text, QR code and other important elements away from the cutting line.

The QR code should be a suitable size and have clear contrast. Before sending the design, check that it scans properly.

When you place the order you choose one of three file preparation options:

• No file check - for agencies, designers and anyone confident the design is technically correct. The file goes straight into production.
• File check by a designer - we check the format, bleed, safe distances, image quality, colours and how the file was saved. On Prestige bookmarks we also look at the legibility of small text, the quality of the QR codes and the contrast of the design on the decorative paper chosen.
• Simple graphic design - if you have no file ready, send us your logo, the text, a quotation, artwork, a QR code and your guidelines on colour. We will prepare a simple design matched to the 200×50 mm format, the paper and the printing you chose.

The technical check does not cover the content. We do not check typos, whether quotations are accurate, dates, contact details or copyright. Those are the customer's responsibility.

The check is worth choosing especially if the design was prepared in Canva, an online generator, an office program or with AI tools. Files like these may need the format, bleed, CMYK, resolution or the contrast on the decorative paper chosen adjusted.
