TIKO metal pens - product details
TIKO metal pens - A classic metal pen measuring 144×10 mm - the longest of our metal pens. It has an oxidised barrel, silver fittings and a distinctive double ring around the middle. Two laser engraving fields are available: 50.0×6.0 mm at the bottom and 20.0×6.0 mm at the top.
TIKO - the longest of our metal pens, with two engraving fields
The TIKO measures 144×10 mm, which makes it the longest metal pen in our range. The barrel is aluminium, with a finish that sets it apart from the rest.
It is oxidised - treated so the metal surface is calmer and less glossy - and finished with silver fittings and two rings running around the middle of the barrel. The TESS has a similar detail, while the BOND has four rings lower down.
Like the TESS, the TIKO offers marking split across two fields: 50.0×6.0 mm on the lower part of the barrel and 20.0×6.0 mm on the upper. A logo with the company name fits the larger field, with a web address or a short line in the smaller one, instead of everything competing for the same space.
Where the TIKO works
- Welcome sets and onboarding - a pen that stays in use long after the first day.
- Conferences and training - handed out with the materials and usually kept afterwards.
- Office, reception and meeting rooms - one consistent branded model wherever documents get signed.
- Gifts for business contacts - the oxidised finish and silver fittings look more considered than a standard promotional pen.
- Institutions and offices - a longer barrel and two marking fields suit longer official names.
YAG laser engraving
We mark metal pens with precise YAG laser engraving. The laser removes the top layer of the finish and exposes the lighter metal beneath. No ink and no additional layer is applied, so there is nothing to peel or rub away - the mark lasts as long as the pen.
Engraving is single-colour: the laser exposes metal rather than printing colour, so a multi-colour logo has to be simplified to one tone. On the oxidised, darker barrel of the TIKO the light trace of the engraving stands out strongly - one of the reasons this model reads so well.
One side or two
In the calculator, under "Marking", choose "One-sided engraving" or "Two-sided engraving". The TIKO already gives you two fields on one side, so that often covers everything. Two-sided engraving adds room when you want to keep, say, a logo and full contact details completely apart. The two-sided version costs more; the difference shows in the calculator as soon as you switch the option.
The engraving file and free design work
Send finished artwork as a vector PDF in black only. Everything black will be engraved. Convert text to curves so the typeface does not change when the file is opened, and avoid photographs and greyscale - engraving does not reproduce halftones.
No artwork ready? With an order placed with us we prepare it free of charge. E-mail your logo, preferably in vector form, along with the text for the pen. Our designer will lay it out across both fields and send a proof for approval; production starts once you accept it.
TIKO technical data
- Material - metal, aluminium, oxidised barrel with silver fittings.
- Dimensions - 144×10 mm, the longest of our metal pens.
- Marking areas - 50.0×6.0 mm and 20.0×6.0 mm, on the lower and upper parts of the barrel.
- Marking method - YAG laser engraving, one or two sides.
- Distinguishing feature - a double ring around the middle of the barrel.
- Refill - replaceable, in a common size, so a spare is easy to buy in a stationery shop.
- Refill colour - blue as standard. A black refill is available for a surcharge, though not as an option in the calculator; mention it with your order and we will confirm the terms.
Quantity and ordering
The minimum order is 100 pieces, with further steps at 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000. Pens are produced in multiples of 50, so entering 220 makes the calculator round the order up to 250.
The calculator also shows the estimated lead time, counted from your approval of the proof rather than from the day of ordering. The first version of the design usually comes within 1-2 working days; each further round of changes adds one working day.
TIKO metal pens - questions and answers
Need help? Contact us
How many engraving fields does the TIKO have, and where are they?
Two: 50.0×6.0 mm on the lower part of the barrel and 20.0×6.0 mm on the upper part. They are separate areas, so content can be divided between them rather than squeezed into one.
What should go in the lower field and what in the upper one?
Usually a logo with the company name in the larger lower field, and a web address, phone number or short line in the smaller upper one. Our designer will propose an arrangement and show it on a proof before production.
What are the dimensions of the TIKO?
144×10 mm - the longest metal pen in our range. The barrel is aluminium with an oxidised finish and silver fittings.
What does "oxidised barrel with silver fittings" mean?
Oxidising is a surface treatment that makes the metal calmer and less glossy than a polished or lacquered barrel. The darker, matt surface is set off by silver fittings and the two rings around the middle. It also suits engraving: a light mark contrasts strongly against a darker background.
What is the double ring?
Two rings running around the middle of the barrel. The TESS has a similar detail; the BOND has four rings lower down. On the TIKO the pair sits at the midpoint.
How does the TIKO differ from the TESS?
Both have two engraving fields and a double ring in the middle, so they look alike at first glance. The TIKO is 144×10 mm and the TESS 135.5×10.4 mm, and the TIKO has an oxidised barrel with silver fittings. The TIKO takes a refill in a common, widely available size, while the TESS uses a standard replaceable refill.
Can the refill be replaced, and where do I get a new one?
Yes. The refill is replaceable and in a common size, so a spare is easy to buy in any stationery shop. When the ink runs out there is no need to discard the metal barrel.
What marking method do you use on the TIKO?
Precise YAG laser engraving. The laser removes the top layer of the finish and exposes the lighter metal beneath, so the mark is made in the barrel itself rather than applied to it.
Will the engraving reproduce my logo's colours?
No. The laser applies no ink - it exposes metal - so the mark is always single-colour. A multi-colour logo has to be simplified to one tone before engraving.
Which barrel colour suits engraving best?
Darker barrels give the strongest contrast, and the oxidised TIKO body is a good example: the light trace of exposed metal stands out clearly against it.
Will the engraving rub off or fall away?
No. It is not a print or an added layer. The laser removes part of the finish and exposes the metal, so the mark becomes part of the barrel. Water will not wash it off and everyday carrying will not wear it away.
One-sided or two-sided engraving - which should I choose?
The TIKO already offers two fields on one side, which often covers everything. Two-sided engraving adds room when you want a logo and full contact details kept completely apart. The two-sided version costs more; the difference appears in the calculator as soon as you switch the option.
How should the engraving file be prepared?
As a vector PDF in black only. Everything black will be engraved. Convert text to curves so the typeface does not change when the file is opened, and avoid photographs and greyscale - engraving does not reproduce halftones.
I have no artwork - what does it cost to have one made?
Laying out your logo and text on the pen is free of charge with an order placed with us. E-mail your logo, preferably in vector form, along with the text for the pen; our designer will send a proof for approval. Only redrawing a logo that exists purely as a photograph is a paid service, quoted individually.
What is the minimum order, and how does the step of 50 work?
The minimum is 100 pieces, with further steps at 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000. Pens are produced in multiples of 50: enter any other figure and the calculator rounds it up to the nearest multiple, so 220 becomes 250.
My logo only exists as a JPG or PNG. Can it be engraved?
Engraving needs vector artwork, so such a logo has to be redrawn first. We offer that as a paid service, quoted individually according to how complex the mark is. Afterwards you get the logo in vector formats, usable on other materials too.
My logo is vertical, with the name under the symbol. How will it come out?
The TIKO handles this better than most, because the two fields let you put the symbol in one and the name in the other rather than stacking them in a single 6 mm strip. If your brand book also has a horizontal version, send it - our designer will suggest which arrangement uses the space best, and you will see a proof before production.
