Brochures, catalogues and booklets - printing online

A brochure gives far more room than an ordinary leaflet or a single folder. Several, a dozen or several dozen pages let you lay out an offer calmly, show product photographs, describe services and present the company without cramming everything onto one surface.

The finished publication is legible, comfortable to browse, and you can come back to it whenever it is needed.

We print brochures as multi-page booklets in full colour, finished with saddle stitching. They are used by service companies, shops, hotels, restaurants, schools, surgeries, estate agencies and event organisers.

This is a good solution wherever there is too much information for a plain leaflet and the material should stay orderly and easy to take in.

Available formats

You can order a brochure in one of five formats. Each offers slightly different possibilities and suits a different kind of project.

• A5 - handy and versatile. Convenient to hand out, store and browse. It suits service catalogues, information folders and guides for customers.
• A5 landscape - a more presentational layout that makes good use of wide photographs and graphics. It works for portfolios, interior catalogues, hospitality material and publications built on photography.
• A4 - a larger format with plenty of room for content. It suits sales catalogues, company presentations, training material, reports and manuals.
• A4 landscape - convenient with wide photographs, tables, diagrams and elaborate graphic layouts. It works well for visual catalogues, portfolios and photographic presentations.
• 15×15 cm - a square format that stands out through its unusual proportions. It suits product catalogues, menus, beauty material and projects where a more distinctive form matters.

Page count - from 8 to 32

Brochures are available in versions of:

8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 and 32 pages.

The page count is always a multiple of four. That follows from the way sheets are folded in saddle-stitched publications.

As a rough guide:

• 8 or 12 pages - a short company presentation, an event programme, a basic service catalogue or a small information piece,
• 16 or 20 pages - a very versatile range for company folders, sales catalogues, training material and publications combining text, photographs and tables,
• 24, 28 or 32 pages - larger product catalogues, extensive presentations, reports and material with more content.

If the material starts to feel cramped, it is better to add a few pages than to shrink the text and photographs a lot. The brochure will be more legible and more pleasant to browse.

Cover and inner paper

You choose the paper for the cover and for the inner pages separately.

That lets you combine a stiffer cover with a lighter inside, or prepare the whole publication on similar paper if you want less weight and a simpler construction.

For the cover the options are:

• Coated 135 gsm - light and economical. It works for simple brochures, larger runs and publications intended for shorter use.
• Coated 170 gsm - a little thicker and stiffer. A versatile variant for standard company brochures and service catalogues.
• Coated 250 gsm - a noticeably stiffer cover, good for sales catalogues, portfolios and publications meant to be kept longer.
• Coated 350 gsm - the thickest of the available variants. It gives a stronger, stiffer cover and suits more presentable material.

The inside of a brochure is printed on:

• Coated 135 gsm - light and versatile, often chosen for standard catalogues and folders,
• Coated 170 gsm - thicker, giving a more solid effect and showing photographs, graphics and visualisations well.

For more presentable publications you can combine a 250 or 350 gsm cover with a 170 gsm inside.

If the brochures are to be handed out in a larger run and you want lower weight and a better price, a lighter cover with a 135 gsm inside may be quite enough.

What you can use brochures for

A brochure lets you organise far more information than a leaflet. The reader can go calmly through successive products, services or parts of an offer instead of hunting for everything on one page.

Brochures are most often ordered as:

• product and service catalogues,
• advertising folders and sales presentations,
• programmes for events, trade fairs and conferences,
• company magazines and information bulletins,
• price lists, menus and portfolios,
• training and educational material and manuals.

If you need a simpler and cheaper version for manuals or shorter material, look also at economy brochures. It is a lighter variant of multi-page print prepared with lower cost in mind.

Preparing the file - you choose the level of checking

When placing an order you can choose one of two ways of handling the file.

• No checking - the file goes straight to print. This option is for agencies, designers and people confident that the material was prepared correctly both for printing and for later assembly.
• File checking by a graphic designer - the designer checks the artwork on the technical side and prepares a preview for approval. We check the format, bleed, safe distances from the trim line, page order, the quality of graphics and the colour, among other things.

The check does not cover the content. We do not check typos, prices, phone numbers, dates, QR codes or other substantive information. Their correctness is the customer's responsibility.

Checking by a graphic designer is particularly worth choosing for artwork made in Canva, an online generator or an office program. Such files quite often have problems with bleed, page order or margins that are too small at the spine.

How to prepare the print file

The safest approach is to prepare the brochure as a multi-page PDF in line with our specification.

The artwork should be saved in CMYK, and photographs and graphics are best prepared at 300 dpi at 1:1 scale.

Fonts should be correctly embedded in the file or converted to outlines.

With brochures the correct page order matters a great deal. Prepare them as single pages arranged exactly as they will later be read. There is no need to impose them into printing sections yourself.

If a photograph, a coloured background or graphics run to the edge, remember suitable bleed.

Leave a slightly larger margin at the spine as well. Texts, page numbers, logos and important parts of photographs should not sit very close to the stitching. After binding they could be less comfortable to read or look at. The more pages a brochure has, the more this is worth watching.
