What EKO folded invitations are

An EKO folded invitation is made from one sheet printed on both sides on paper with a natural character. Once creased, the sheet is folded down to the finished card format.

Compared with a single-sheet invitation that gives far more room for content. The cover can carry names, a monogram, the name of the event or a delicate botanical motif. Inside there is room for the invitation itself with the date, time and place, and the back can hold a map, practical information, contact details or a QR code.

The natural paper also becomes part of the design. It has a colour and texture of its own, so the finished invitation looks different from a card printed on a classic white, smooth stock.

Folding and creasing - why they are needed

Every EKO folded invitation is creased before folding. A precise line is made in the paper, marking where the future fold will be.

That matters especially on the thicker, stiffer natural papers. Creasing lets the sheet be folded evenly at the intended point and reduces the risk of the surface cracking unattractively along the fold.

A well prepared fold also helps the finished card keep its proper shape. When designing an invitation you therefore have to allow not only for the format before and after folding but also for the position of the crease and the direction it opens.

Which occasions do EKO folded invitations suit?

Natural paper and the folded construction work well at many private celebrations and company events.

EKO invitations are often chosen for:

• weddings, especially in a boho, rustic, botanical or slow wedding style,
• communions and christenings,
• birthdays, jubilees and anniversaries,
• family parties and gatherings in restaurants,
• conferences, galas and banquets,
• product launches and VIP meetings.

Natural stocks also suit companies and brands that want to keep a calm, craft-like or more eco character in their printed materials.

Fold formats available

In the calculator we describe the format as sheet before folding → format after folding.

Six versions are available:

• A5 → A6 - the classic, versatile format. Folded, it gives a handy A6 card that works for wedding, communion, family and company invitations.
• 2×A6 → A6 (landscape) - an invitation in a landscape layout. It goes well with a wider photograph, an illustration or a panoramic composition.
• 2×DL → DL (landscape) - a slim, elongated version in landscape. It suits company and hotel invitations and more modern designs.
• 2×DL → DL (portrait) - the same slim format but folded in portrait. It looks good with vertical typography, botanical illustrations and calmer compositions.
• 30×15 → 15×15 - a sheet folded to a 15×15 cm square. A decorative version suited to designs with a central monogram, a botanical motif or another symmetrical composition.
• 240×170 → 120×170 mm - a 240×170 mm sheet folded in half down to a 120×170 mm card. The finished invitation is taller than it is wide, gives more room than DL and still fits a typical envelope.

When choosing, it is worth considering the amount of content, the style of the occasion and the size of the envelope.

EKO papers and their character

We print EKO folded invitations on eight papers with a natural character. They differ in colour, weight and surface, so each gives a slightly different result.

Kraftliner 300 gsm

Kraftliner 300 gsm is a bold brown paper with a kraft character.

It suits rustic, boho and more natural invitations. Simple designs with legible typography and strong contrast look best on it.

Kazan ecru 250 gsm with grass fibre

A warm ecru paper with visible flecks of grass. It has a natural, organic look and goes well with wedding and family designs in a calmer style.

Kazan ecru 300 gsm with grass fibre

It keeps the distinctive look of Kazan paper but is stiffer than the 250 gsm version.

It is a good choice when the invitation should stay natural while feeling more solid.

Flora Avorio 240 gsm

A light, delicate paper in an elegant, natural shade.

It suits subtle wedding, communion and family invitations and designs built on delicate typography and botanical motifs.

Flora Giglio 240 gsm and 350 gsm

Light, neutral stocks with a natural character.

The 240 gsm version is lighter, while Flora Giglio 350 gsm gives a stiffer, more solid card. Both work when the invitation should stay natural while remaining light and legible.

Flora Tabacco 240 gsm and 350 gsm

Darker, more decisive papers that suit autumnal, rustic and bolder designs.

On these stocks the right contrast matters especially. Very small text, thin lines and delicate colours can be less legible. The 350 gsm version is also stiffer and more solid.

Double-sided printing

We print EKO folded invitations always on both sides, in full colour.

That lets you use all the surfaces created once the sheet is folded:

• the cover for names, a monogram, the name of the event or a graphic element,
• the inside for the wording, the date, the time, the place, the RSVP and a QR code,
• the back for contact details, a map or extra information.

The page layout has to be planned to match the direction of folding, so that everything ends up in the right place once the invitation is closed and opened.

A natural effect instead of film

We do not laminate EKO invitations and use no other finishes in this version.

What matters most here is the paper itself: its colour, surface, texture and the way it feels in the hand. A layer of film would change those qualities and cover the natural character of the stock.

So we build the look of the invitation above all with a well chosen paper, the typography and a design matched to the particular shade.

Remember that the colour of the paper affects the print. The colours can be warmer and more muted than on white coated stock. On darker stocks, clear fonts and the right contrast matter especially.

Personalisation - every invitation can be different

EKO folded invitations can be ordered with personalisation.

That means one piece of artwork can carry different details on each copy. In the calculator you choose the personalisation option No or Yes.

The variables can include:

• the names of the people invited,
• forms of address,
• a note about a companion,
• the table number,
• the category of invitation, such as VIP,
• an individual invitation code,
• a QR code for the RSVP,
• the attendee's details.

We prepare one graphic layout and then feed in the data from the list you send. Every invitation keeps the same look but can have a different name, number or code.

The list is best sent as a tidy table. One row should be one invitation, and each column a particular field, for instance first name, surname, companion, table number or RSVP code.

What to put on the invitation

A folded card gives room for the full set of information guests need.

You can put on it:

• the hosts' names,
• the name of the event,
• a short line,
• the date and time,
• the place and exact address,
• a map,
• contact details,
• the RSVP details,
• QR codes leading to a confirmation form, a map or the event page,
• the schedule,
• the dress code,
• a logo,
• a monogram,
• botanical artwork.

On private invitations the names, the date, the place and the details of the occasion usually matter most. On company invitations, consistency with the visual identity, precise practical information and a simple way of confirming attendance play a bigger part.

An EKO folded invitation can also be paired with other stationery, such as envelopes, place cards, menus or thank-yous for guests.

How to prepare the file, and the check

The design is best sent as a PDF prepared to our specification, in CMYK, with artwork at 300 dpi at 1:1 scale.

If a background or artwork runs to the edge, add the right amount of bleed. Move names, dates, the logo, a QR code and other important elements away both from the edges and from the fold line.

While designing you also have to allow for the format before and after folding and for the direction the card folds.

With the order you choose one of three file preparation options:

• No file check - for agencies, designers and anyone confident the design has been prepared correctly. The file goes straight into production.
• File check by a designer - we check the format, bleed, safe distances and colours. On EKO folded invitations we also check the crease line and the contrast of the design on the natural paper chosen.
• Simple graphic design - if you have no file ready, send us your logo, the wording of the invitation, the date, the place, the guest list and details of the style and colours you want. On that basis we will prepare a simple design matched to the format and paper you chose.

The technical check can be particularly useful if the design was made in Canva, an online generator or with AI tools.

The check does not cover the content. We do not check whether names, dates or the guest list are correct, or whether links work. The customer is responsible for that information, so it is worth going through it carefully before sending the material.
