SONIC metal pens - product details
SONIC metal pens - A metal pen marked with laser engraving, available in nine barrel colours including an unusual warm champagne shade. Engraving can be done on one side or both. Minimum order 100 pieces, and the artwork is prepared free of charge.
SONIC - nine colours, including champagne
The SONIC comes in nine colours: blue, green, red, orange, grey, black, magenta, purple and champagne. That last one is unusual on a promotional pen - a light, warm shade closer to off-white and sandy tones than to classic silver.
The barrel is aluminium with a matt texture. The lower part carries silver fittings and fine knurling, while the clip, upper section and tip are glossier, so the pen does not look flat.
Dimensions and engraving field
The SONIC is 140 mm long and 10 mm across. The engraving field is 50.0×6.0 mm.
That is shorter than on models with a completely smooth barrel, but the SONIC is not chosen for its marking area alone - much of its character comes from the barrel itself, with the contrast between matt aluminium, knurling and glossy fittings.
For a longer company name, or a name together with a web address, a model with a larger marking field will serve better.
Where the SONIC works

Laser engraving
The laser removes the top layer of the barrel surface and exposes the lighter metal beneath. Nothing is applied on top, so there is no ink to peel or rub away - the mark is part of the barrel and lasts as long as the pen.
Engraving is single-colour: the laser exposes metal rather than printing colour, so a multi-colour logo appears in one tone. On darker barrels the contrast is stronger; on champagne and other light shades the effect is quieter and more subtle.
Artwork at no extra charge
Have a logo ready? Send it in vector format with text converted to curves. Engraving works on shapes, so that gives the cleanest, most predictable result.
No artwork? We prepare it free of charge with an order placed with us. E-mail your logo and the text that is to appear on the pen. We will send a proof for approval and correct anything that needs changing before production.
Quantity and lead times
The minimum order is 100 pieces, produced in multiples of 50. The price steps in the calculator are 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000 pieces, and the unit price falls as the quantity grows.
The lead time appears in the calculator once you choose a configuration, counted from the start of production. The first version of the design usually comes within 1-2 working days; each further round of changes adds one working day.

What colours is the SONIC available in?
Nine: blue, green, red, orange, grey, black, magenta, purple and champagne. The last is unusual on a promotional pen and useful when you want something other than the standard range.
What does the champagne colour look like?
A light, warm shade, closer to off-white and sandy tones than to classic silver. Champagne also appears on the COSMO, but there it is noticeably lighter; on the SONIC it has a slightly warmer character. If the shade has to match a particular identity, write to us before ordering.
How does the SONIC differ from the FERII?
Both come in nine colours and are laser engraved, but the palettes differ. The FERII has a more classic set of shades, with magenta and purple among them. The SONIC adds grey and the distinctive champagne. The current versions of both are best compared directly in their calculators.
Does the barrel colour affect the price?
No. The price depends on the quantity and on whether you choose one-sided or two-sided engraving.
What are the dimensions of the SONIC?
140 mm long and 10 mm across - a full-size pen with a classic barrel diameter.
How large is the engraving field?
50.0×6.0 mm. It is shorter than on models with a completely smooth barrel, because part of the SONIC's surface is taken up by knurling and fittings. For a longer name, or a name with a web address, a model with a larger field will serve better.
Does the engraving look the same on every colour?
The shape is the same, but the contrast is not. On darker barrels the light trace of exposed metal stands out strongly; on champagne and other light shades the mark is quieter and more subtle. If you want it to be immediately visible, choose a darker colour.
Does the engraving rub off?
No. It is not a print or an added layer: the laser removes part of the surface and exposes the metal, so the mark becomes part of the barrel. Water will not wash it off and everyday carrying will not wear it away.
Can the SONIC be engraved on both sides?
Yes. Choose "Two-sided engraving" in the calculator. Each side then has its own field, which helps when you want a logo and contact details kept apart. The two-sided version costs more; the difference shows in the calculator.
What is the minimum quantity?

How long does production take?
The lead time appears in the calculator once you choose a configuration, counted from the start of production. If the pens are needed for a specific date, order early or confirm the date with us by e-mail.
Is the artwork chargeable?
No. With an order placed with us we prepare simple artwork free of charge. E-mail your logo and the text for the pen; we will send a proof for approval.
What file should I send the logo in?
Vector format, in black, with text converted to curves. Engraving works on shapes, so avoid photographs and greyscale - halftones cannot be reproduced. If you only have a JPG or PNG, send it as well and we will check whether it can be used. If the logo has to be redrawn as vector artwork, that is a separate, paid service quoted individually. The pen artwork itself - arranging the logo and text in the marking field - stays free of charge.
Can I order several colours at once?
Yes, but the calculator treats each colour as a separate item. Add them separately with the appropriate quantities, or write to us and we will help set the order up correctly.
What colour is the refill?
Blue as standard. If you need a different colour, mention it with your order - we will check availability for this model and confirm before production.
What is the barrel made of?
Aluminium with a matt texture, silver fittings and fine knurling on the lower part. Metal is why we mark it with a laser; plastic models are marked with full-colour UV printing instead.
