TESS metal pens - A classic metal pen measuring 135.5×10.4 mm, with a distinctive double ring around the middle of the barrel. It has two separate laser engraving fields: 50.0×6.0 mm at the bottom and 20.0×6.0 mm at the top, so a logo, company name and web address do not have to share one space.
TESS - a classic pen with two engraving fields
The TESS has a calm, classic form and an aluminium barrel with no surplus decoration. The easiest way to recognise it is by the two rings set exactly in the middle of the barrel. Similar details appear on other models in our range, but in different arrangements: the BOND has four rings lower down, the VENO RUBBER has one. A pair of rings at the midpoint is the TESS.
The pen is 135.5 mm long and 10.4 mm across - a full-size model with a noticeably more solid barrel than the slim ø 7 mm COSMO SLIM or BOND.
What sets it apart is the split marking: two separate engraving fields on the barrel, 50.0×6.0 mm at the bottom and 20.0×6.0 mm at the top. A logo and company name can sit in the larger field, with a web address or short line in the smaller one - instead of everything crowding into a single space.
Where the TESS works
- Welcome sets - for new staff, training participants or visitors, alongside a notebook, badge and other materials.
- Conferences and training - the pen sits on the table with the materials and often stays with the participant far longer than the event itself.
- Office and reception - company pens to hand for signing documents, records and forms.
- Gifts for business contacts - a metal barrel and engraving look more solid than an ordinary plastic giveaway, so the TESS can go into a set handed over at a meeting.
- Hotels, consulting rooms and service points - anywhere pens regularly disappear from the counter. If they must go, better that they take the company name with them.
The TESS does not pretend to be an exclusive gift for a grand occasion. It is a decent, classic pen at a sensible price, meant to look good, write well and keep reminding people of the company for a long time.
YAG laser engraving
We mark metal pens with precise YAG laser engraving. The laser removes the layer of lacquer or anodising and exposes the lighter metal beneath - no ink, no extra layer, nothing to rub off or peel away.
Engraving is single-colour: the laser exposes metal rather than printing colour, so even a multi-colour logo appears in one tone. Darker barrels give the strongest contrast; on light and silver ones the effect is more subtle.
One side or two
In the calculator, under "Marking", choose "One-sided engraving" or "Two-sided engraving". On the TESS the barrel is already divided into two fields, so one side often covers everything. If you are not sure how best to distribute the content, or which option to choose, mention it with the order - our designer will propose a layout before production.
The engraving file and free design work
Send finished artwork as a vector PDF prepared in black only. Every black element will be engraved. Convert text to curves so the typeface does not change when the file is opened.
Do not use photographs or greyscale artwork: laser engraving does not reproduce halftones, so the design should rest on simple, solid shapes.
No artwork ready? With an order placed with us we prepare it free of charge. E-mail your logo, preferably in vector form, along with the text for the pen. Our designer will send a proof for approval, and production starts once you accept it.

Quantity and ordering
The minimum order is 100 pieces, with further steps at 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000. Pens are produced in multiples of 50, so entering 220 makes the calculator round the order up to 250.
The calculator also shows the estimated lead time, counted from your approval of the proof rather than from the day of ordering. The first version of the design usually comes within 1-2 working days; each further round of changes adds one working day.

How many engraving fields does the TESS have?
Two: 50.0×6.0 mm on the lower part of the barrel and 20.0×6.0 mm on the upper part. They are separate areas, so the content does not have to be squeezed into one place.
What is best placed in the two fields?
Usually a logo with the company name in the larger, lower field, and a web address, phone number or short line in the smaller upper one. That way neither has to be shrunk to fit alongside the other. Our designer will propose a layout and show it on a proof before production.
What are the dimensions of the TESS?
135.5×10.4 mm - a full-size pen, noticeably more solid than the slim ø 7 mm models such as the COSMO SLIM or BOND. The barrel is aluminium.
What is the double ring?
Two rings running around the barrel exactly at its midpoint. It is the detail that identifies the TESS: the BOND has four rings lower down and the VENO RUBBER has one.
How does the TESS differ from the TIKO?
Both have two engraving fields and a double ring in the middle of the barrel, so at first glance they look alike. They differ in dimensions and a few details: the TIKO is 144×10 mm, the TESS 135.5×10.4 mm. The TIKO also has an oxidised barrel with silver fittings. The TESS takes a standard replaceable refill, while the TIKO uses a common, widely available size.
How does the TESS differ from the other pens in the range?
Mainly in the split marking. Most of our pens have one continuous field - 65.0×6.0 mm on the COSMO, 75.0×6.0 mm on the MOOI, 70.0×4.0 mm on the BOND. The TESS divides the marking into 50.0×6.0 mm and 20.0×6.0 mm, which suits a design that naturally falls into two parts.
What refill does the TESS take, and can I have another colour?
A standard replaceable refill writing in blue, which you can change yourself once the ink runs out. A black refill is available for a surcharge, though not as an option in the calculator - mention it with your order and we will include it in the quote. A red refill is not available for this model.
What marking method do you use on this pen?
Precise YAG laser engraving. The laser removes the top layer of lacquer or anodising and exposes the lighter metal beneath, so the mark is made in the barrel itself rather than applied to it.
Can the engraving be in my logo's colours?
No. The laser applies no ink - it exposes metal - so the mark is always single-colour, however many colours the original logo uses. A multi-colour logo has to be simplified to one colour first.
Which barrel colour suits engraving best?
Darker barrels give the strongest contrast, because the light trace of exposed metal stands out clearly. On light and silver barrels the engraving is quieter and more subtle.
Will the engraving rub off?
No. It is not a print or an added layer; the laser removes part of the coating and exposes the metal, so the mark becomes part of the barrel. Water will not wash it off and everyday carrying will not wear it away.
One-sided or two-sided engraving - how do I choose?
On the TESS the barrel already gives you two fields, so one side often covers everything. Two-sided engraving is worth taking when you want still more separation - for example a logo and name on one side, contact details on the other. The two-sided version costs more; the difference shows in the calculator as soon as you switch the option.
How should the engraving file be prepared?

My logo only exists as a JPG or PNG. Can it be engraved?
Engraving needs vector artwork, so such a logo has to be redrawn first. We offer that as a paid service, quoted individually according to how complex the mark is. Afterwards you get the logo in vector formats, usable on other materials too. Laying out the logo and text on the pen remains free of charge.
My logo is vertical, with the name under the symbol. How will it come out?
The TESS helps here more than most: with two separate fields you can put the symbol in one and the name in the other, instead of stacking them in a single 6 mm strip. If your brand book has a horizontal version, send that as well - our designer will suggest which arrangement uses the space best, and you will see a proof before production.
