Door hangers - product details
Door hangers printed to your own design are the classic handle hangers used in hotels, guesthouses, apartments, spas, clinics and many other places. You can choose the paper, single or double-sided printing and the type of lamination, and match the design to your property's identity. The price of your configuration appears straight away in the online calculator.
A door hanger is a simple way of passing on information without having to contact reception or the staff. You just hang it on the door, and it is clear that the guest does not want to be disturbed, is asking for the room to be cleaned or is passing on another short message.
In a hotel or guesthouse a small item like this genuinely makes daily work easier. Staff read the guest's needs quickly, there are fewer misunderstandings, and the property itself feels better organised. Printed to your own design, the hanger can also do a job for your image: it can carry a logo, your brand colours, a welcome line, the spa offer or information about room service.
What you can use door hangers for
We usually associate them with hotel rooms, but in practice they can be used anywhere a short message should be visible right on the handle.
- Hotels, guesthouses and apartments - "Do not disturb" and "Please clean the room" messages, marking an occupied room, or a short welcome for the guest.
- Spas, health resorts and treatment areas - notice of a treatment in progress, a request for quiet, or marking an occupied room.
- Clinics, offices and meeting rooms - a "Do not disturb - meeting in progress" message or a marking for a conference room.
- Holiday homes, guest rooms and resorts - simple information for guests, including bilingual versions.
- Information and promotional material - a note about eco-friendly towel changes, the restaurant offer, a QR code to the guest panel, Google reviews or the Wi-Fi details.
Hangers are light, convenient and easy to read. The design can be very simple, built on one message and a pictogram, or fuller, with your brand colours, extra information and what the property offers.
The 76×220 mm format in six shapes
One hanger format is available:
- Door hanger 01 - 06 - all of them 76×220 mm
It is the classic size used for hotel hangers. It is large enough for the message to be read quickly while staying convenient in daily use and easy to keep in the room.
The design has to be prepared with the hanger's distinctive shape and the handle opening in mind. The key elements - the message, the logo, a pictogram, the reception number or a QR code - should not sit too close to the opening, the edges or the lines of the die.
Which paper to choose
We print the hangers on three papers and boards with suitable stiffness:
- Coated 250 gsm - the lighter version, good for larger runs, simple information hangers and material that is replaced regularly.
- Coated 350 gsm - thicker and stiffer. It suits hotels, apartments and guesthouses that want a more solid, distinguished hanger.
- Arktika GC1 board 300 gsm - a stiff, attractive board suited to hotel, apartment and spa hangers. It gives a card that is comfortable to use and looks professional.
When choosing the paper it helps to think about how long the hanger is meant to stay in use, how often it will be taken off and put back on the handle, and whether you plan to protect the surface with film as well.
Single or double-sided printing
Two printing options are available:
- Single-sided printing - the whole message is on one side. That is enough for a logo, an icon and the text "Do not disturb" or "Please clean the room".
- Double-sided printing - very practical in hotel use. One side can carry "Do not disturb" and the other "Please clean the room". You can also prepare a bilingual version or combine a practical message with a short promotional offer.
Using different colours or pictograms on the two sides is a good idea. Staff can then recognise the message from further away.
Finishing the hangers
You can leave the hanger without any extra finish or cover it with film.
Your choices are:
- No finishing - suited to simple information hangers, larger runs and seasonal material that is replaced more often.
- Gloss lamination - brings out colours and contrast. It looks good with vivid artwork, photographs and messages that should draw more attention.
- Matte lamination - gives a calmer, more restrained effect. It suits hotels, apartments, guesthouses and spas with a sparer identity.
- Soft-touch lamination - creates a soft surface that is pleasant to the touch. It works well in boutique hotels, resorts and properties where a more elegant character matters.
A hanger is a working item. It gets taken off, moved and hung back on the handle many times, so on material meant for longer use a thicker paper and lamination are worth considering.
What to put on the hanger
A hanger can combine the basic message with your property's identity and extra information for the guest.
These work well:
- Property identity - the hotel logo, the name of the property, your brand colours and graphic elements.
- Practical messages - "Do not disturb", "Please clean the room", "Room occupied", their Polish equivalents, and clear pictograms.
- QR codes - leading to the guest panel, room service, Google reviews or the Wi-Fi details.
- Information and offers - the spa, the restaurant, breakfast, extra services, a note about towel changes or the reception number.
In hotels, double-sided hangers with clearly different messages on the two sides are especially practical. One side can mean "Do not disturb" and the other "Please clean the room".
At properties with international guests, short messages in several languages and pictograms work well. It is not worth overloading a small surface with a lot of text, though. What matters most is that the information can be read quickly and unambiguously.
File check and graphic design
When you place the order you can choose one of three ways of preparing the design:
- No file check - for agencies, designers and anyone confident the design is technically correct. The file goes into production without further graphic control.
- File check by a designer - we check the format, bleed, safe distances, image quality, colours and how the file was saved. On hangers we also check the position of the design in relation to the die, the handle opening, the cutting lines and whether text and other important elements are set back from the edges and the opening.
- Simple graphic design - if you have no file ready, send us your logo, the text, the messages, contact details and your guidelines on style. We will prepare a simple design matched to the format, paper, printing and finish you chose.
The check by a designer is worth considering especially if the design was made in Canva, an online generator, an office program or with AI tools. A file like that can look good on screen and still need proper fitting to the die, the bleed, CMYK, the resolution or the position of the handle opening.
The technical check does not cover the content. We do not check typos, prices, numbers, discount codes, dates, contact details, translations, what the QR codes contain, or whether the information matches what the property offers. The customer is responsible for the accuracy of that data.
How to prepare the file for print
The design is best prepared as a PDF that follows our specification. In selected cases we also accept good quality JPG or PNG files.
When preparing the artwork, watch a few things:
- Resolution and colour - photographs should be at 300 dpi at 1:1 scale, and the design prepared in CMYK.
- Bleed and the safe area - if a background or artwork runs to the edge, add the right amount of bleed. Move the logo, the messages, pictograms, a QR code and the reception number away both from the edges and from the handle opening.
- The cutting die - use the right template. The design should allow for the cutting lines, the handle opening, the bleed and the correct arrangement of the front and back when printing on both sides.
- Legibility from a distance - a hanger should be easy to read without walking right up to the door. Use text that is large enough, short unambiguous messages and a clear distinction between the "do not disturb" and "please clean" sides.
- QR code - it should be a suitable size, have good contrast and sit away from the edges and the opening. Before sending the design, check that it leads to the right page.
Our site also has a separate section on preparing a design and on the mistakes made most often. You can see the exact price for the paper, printing and lamination you choose in the online calculator.
Door hangers - questions and answers
Need help? Contact us
What are door hangers?
They are printed hangers meant to be placed on a door handle. They are most often used in hotels, guesthouses and apartments as "Do not disturb" and "Please clean the room" messages, but they can also serve other information and promotional purposes.
Which hanger format is available?
Every hanger measures 76×220 mm - the classic hotel hanger size, clearly visible on a door. Six die shapes are available: Door hanger 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06. They differ in outline, and each has an opening for the handle. You can see the shape you pick in its template.
What can door hangers be used for?
They can tell staff a room needs cleaning, mark an occupied room, pass on a request not to disturb, or carry information about the spa, room service, towel changes, eco-friendly practices, promotions or extra services. They also work in clinics, offices and meeting rooms.
Can the hangers be double-sided?
Yes. Single-sided and double-sided printing are both available. Hotels often use both sides: one carries "Do not disturb" and the other "Please clean the room".
Which papers are available?
Three stocks are available: coated 250 gsm, coated 350 gsm and Arktika GC1 board 300 gsm.
Which paper should I choose for hotel hangers?
Coated 250 gsm is lighter and works well on larger runs and hangers that are replaced more often. Coated 350 gsm and Arktika GC1 300 gsm give a stiffer, more solid card, so they are worth considering for hangers meant for longer use or for more distinguished properties.
Can the hangers be laminated?
Yes. A hanger can be left without any finish, or you can choose gloss, matte or soft-touch film.
Which lamination should I choose for hangers?
Gloss film brings out vivid colours and contrast. Matte gives a calmer, elegant look. Soft touch creates a soft, velvety surface and suits boutique hotels, apartments, resorts and spas.
Can the hanger have text in Polish and English?
Yes. The design can carry messages in Polish, in English or in several languages. You do have to keep it legible, though, and not put too many language versions on a small surface. Simple, easily recognised pictograms help as well.
Can a QR code go on the hanger?
Yes. A QR code can lead to the guest panel, room service, Google reviews, information about the spa, the restaurant or other services. It should be large enough, high in contrast and set back from the edges and the handle opening.
Do I have to use a cutting die?
Yes. When preparing a hanger it is best to use the right template or cutting die. The design has to allow for the handle opening, the cutting lines, the bleed and a safe distance between the text and the other important elements and the edge.
Can I prepare the design in Canva?
Yes, but with a file like that it is worth choosing the technical check by a designer. Designs from Canva, online generators, office programs or AI tools may need adjusting to the die, the bleed, CMYK, the resolution, the position of the handle opening and the safe distances.
Does the file check cover the text and translations?
No. The check by a designer is about the technical preparation of the design for print. We do not check the content, typos, translations, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, QR codes, terms, the hotel's details or compliance with the regulations. The customer is responsible for the accuracy of that information.
Can you prepare a simple hanger design?
Yes. You can choose the simple graphic design option. Send us your logo, the messages, contact details, pictograms, your brand colours and your basic guidelines on style, and we will prepare a simple design matched to the hanger format.
Which properties are hangers a good choice for?
Hangers work in hotels, apartments, guesthouses, resorts, spas, health resorts, holiday homes, guest rooms, clinics, offices and meeting rooms.
