IDOL metal pens - product details
IDOL metal pens - A metal pen marked with laser engraving, available in six clearly distinct colours: black, white and four stronger shades. Engraving can be done on one side or both. Minimum order 100 pieces, and simple artwork is prepared free of charge.
IDOL - a short colour list and a long engraving field
The IDOL comes in six colours: black, white, red, blue, orange and dark green. It is a shorter list than on some of our other models, but each shade is clearly different from the next - there are no near-identical variants to choose between.
The barrel is metal, 135 mm long and 9 mm across.
Dimensions and engraving field
The engraving field is 70.0×5.0 mm.
Seventy millimetres of length gives plenty of room for content - one of the longest marking fields in our pen range. Only the MOOI, at 75 mm, offers more. On the IDOL you can comfortably fit a longer company name, including its legal form, or a name together with a web address on one line.
If you want both a logo and contact details, consider two-sided engraving: each then gets its own field instead of sharing one.

Laser engraving
The laser removes the top layer of the barrel surface and exposes the lighter metal beneath. Nothing is applied on top, so there is no ink to peel or rub away - the mark is made in the barrel itself and lasts as long as the pen.
Engraving is single-colour. The laser exposes metal rather than printing colour, so a multi-colour logo appears in one tone. On darker barrels the contrast is stronger; on white the effect is quieter.
Artwork at no extra charge
Have a logo ready? Send it in vector format with text converted to curves. Engraving works on shapes, so that gives the cleanest, most predictable result.
No artwork? We prepare it free of charge with an order placed with us. E-mail your logo and the text that is to appear on the pen. We will send a proof for approval and correct anything that needs changing before production.
Quantity and lead times
The minimum order is 100 pieces, produced in multiples of 50. The price steps in the calculator are 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000 pieces, and the unit price falls as the quantity grows.
The lead time appears in the calculator once you choose a configuration, counted from the start of production. The first version of the design usually comes within 1-2 working days; each further round of changes adds one working day.

What colours does the IDOL come in?
Six: black, white, red, blue, orange and dark green. Each is clearly different from the others, so there is no choosing between near-identical shades.
Why does the IDOL have fewer colours than your other models?
Does the barrel colour affect the price?
No. The price depends on the quantity and on whether you choose one-sided or two-sided engraving.
What are the dimensions of the IDOL?

Can the engraving be removed?
No. It is not a print or an added layer: the laser removes part of the surface and exposes the metal beneath, so the mark becomes part of the barrel and stays there.
Will the engraving reproduce my logo's colours?
No. The laser applies no ink - it exposes metal - so the mark is always single-colour, however many colours the original logo uses.
Can the IDOL be engraved on both sides?
Yes. Choose "Two-sided engraving" in the calculator. Each side then has its own field, which helps when you want a logo and contact details kept apart. The two-sided version costs more; the difference shows in the calculator.

I am ordering 1000 pieces in one colour. Is that a good choice?
Yes. The IDOL suits exactly this kind of larger, uniform run: one colour and one engraving pattern across the whole series. At 1000 pieces the unit price is also markedly lower than at the minimum of 100 - the calculator shows the exact difference.
How long does production take?
The lead time appears in the calculator once you choose a configuration, counted from the start of production. If the pens are needed for a specific date, order early or confirm the date with us by e-mail.
Is the artwork chargeable?
No. With an order placed with us we prepare simple artwork free of charge. E-mail your logo and the text for the pen; we will send a proof for approval.
What format should I send the logo in?
Vector format, with text converted to curves and prepared in black. Engraving works on shapes, so avoid photographs and greyscale - halftones cannot be reproduced. If you only have a JPG or PNG, send it as well and we will check whether it can be used. If the logo has to be redrawn as vector artwork, that is a separate, paid service quoted individually. The pen artwork itself - arranging the logo and text in the marking field - stays free of charge.
Will I get a proof before production?
Yes. We always send a proof for approval, so you can check the placement and size of the logo and text. Production starts only once you accept it.
What colour is the refill?
Blue as standard. If you need a different colour, mention it with your order - we will check availability for this model and confirm before production.
What is the barrel made of?
Metal, which is why we mark it with a laser. Our metal pens are engraved; plastic models are marked with full-colour UV printing instead.
