BOND metal pens - A slim metal pen measuring 135×7 mm, recognisable by the four rings around the lower part of the barrel. Its 70.0×4.0 mm engraving field is the longest among our narrow models, so it takes a longer company name, a web address or a simple mark with a line of text beside it. Marked with YAG laser engraving; minimum order 100 pieces.

BOND - a slim barrel with the longest engraving field of our narrow models

The BOND is 135 mm long and 7 mm across. The length is much like our other metal pens, but the barrel is noticeably slimmer than the ø 10 mm models such as the COSMO, MOOI or TIKO. The form is plain and modern, with no surplus detail - apart from one: four rings running around the lower part of the barrel.

The real advantage of this model, though, is the engraving field. At 70.0×4.0 mm it is the longest among our slim ø 7 mm pens; the COSMO SLIM, for comparison, offers 65.0×4.0 mm. On a barrel this narrow, length is what counts, because the text runs along the pen, usually on a single line. Those extra five millimetres can make the difference with a longer company name, or a web address set beside a logo.

The barrel is aluminium. Current colours are shown directly in the calculator - we do not list them here permanently, because some versions can be temporarily unavailable.

Where the BOND works best

  • Welcome sets - part of a pack for a new employee or a training participant, alongside a notebook, badge or company materials.
  • Conferences and training - handed out at registration, it ends up on the table with the materials and usually serves the participant throughout the event.
  • Reception and meeting rooms - one consistent branded model instead of an assortment of random pens.
  • Gifts for business contacts - a metal pen with an engraving looks more elegant than a typical plastic giveaway, while staying a simple, unassuming gift.
  • Everyday office supply - a replaceable refill means the pen stays in use long after the ink runs out.

YAG laser engraving - marking that stays

We mark metal pens with precise YAG laser engraving. The beam removes the top layer of lacquer or anodising and exposes the lighter metal beneath. Nothing is applied to the surface: the mark is made in the barrel itself, and that is where its main properties come from.

The first is durability. Engraving is not a print or a layer of ink, so there is nothing to peel or rub away. The pen can spend months in a bag, a pocket or a drawer and the mark stays legible.

The second is the absence of colour. The shade of the engraving comes from the metal exposed beneath the coating, so this method cannot produce a gradient, a photograph or a multi-colour logo - such a mark has to be simplified to a single-colour version first. It is also worth thinking about the barrel colour: on darker versions a light engraving gives strong contrast and reads from a distance, while on light and silver pens the effect is quieter and more subtle. For strong contrast, choose a darker barrel.

One side or two

In the calculator, under "Marking", there are two options: "One-sided engraving" and "Two-sided engraving".

One side is plenty for most designs: a logo with a company name, or a name with a web address, generally fits the 70.0×4.0 mm field comfortably. Two-sided engraving helps when you have two separate pieces of information and do not want to crowd them together - a logo on one side, a web address, phone number or short slogan on the other.

The two-sided version costs more; switch the option in the calculator to see the difference at once. With your order, state clearly which content goes on which side.

The engraving file and free graphic design

Have artwork ready? Prepare it as a vector PDF in black only. Everything black will be engraved; the rest is left alone. Convert text to curves so the typeface does not change when the file is opened. Do not use photographs or greyscale - the laser does not reproduce halftones, and the rule here is simple: an element is either engraved or it is not.

If you have no artwork, we will prepare it free of charge with an order placed with us. E-mail your logo, preferably in vector form, along with the text that is to appear on the pen. Our designer will send a proof for approval, and production starts only once it is accepted.

Read everything through once more before approving - names, addresses and numbers in particular. Once engraved, a typo cannot simply be removed.

BOND technical data

  • Dimensions - 135×7 mm, barrel diameter 7 mm.
  • Material - metal, aluminium.
  • Marking area - 70.0×4.0 mm.
  • Marking method - YAG laser engraving, one or two sides.
  • Distinguishing feature - four rings in the lower part of the barrel.
  • Refill - replaceable, standard size.
  • Refill colour - blue as standard. Black or red can be fitted for a surcharge, but that option is not in the calculator; mention it with your order and we will settle the details.

Quantity and ordering

The minimum order is 100 pieces. Further steps in the calculator are 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000. The price for your chosen quantity appears as soon as the options are set.

One thing to remember: pens are ordered in multiples of 50. Enter any other figure and the calculator rounds it up - 220 pieces, for example, becomes 250.

The calculator also shows the estimated lead time. We count it from your approval of the proof, not from placing the order. If the pens have to be ready for a particular date, leave some margin; with a very tight deadline, contact us by e-mail beforehand to confirm it is feasible.

The first version of the design usually comes within 1-2 working days. Each further round of changes extends that stage by one working day. Production begins once you approve the final version.

FAQ

BOND metal pens - questions and answers

Need help? Contact us

What are the dimensions of the BOND?

The pen measures 135×7 mm, with a barrel diameter of 7 mm. The length matches most of our metal pens, but the barrel is clearly slimmer than the ø 10 mm models. It is made of aluminium.

How large is the engraving field?

70.0×4.0 mm - the longest among our slim ø 7 mm pens. On such a narrow barrel, length is what matters, because the text runs along the pen, usually on one line.

How does the BOND differ from the COSMO SLIM?

Both have the same 135×7 mm dimensions and the same barrel diameter. The difference is the engraving field: 70.0×4.0 mm on the BOND against 65.0×4.0 mm on the COSMO SLIM - five extra millimetres of length, which tells with a longer company name or a web address next to a logo. The BOND is also recognisable by the four rings in the lower part of the barrel.

How do I recognise a BOND barrel?

By the four rings running around the lower part of the barrel. Otherwise the BOND has a plain, modern form with no additional decoration.

Does the BOND have a touchscreen tip?

No, but there is a Touch Pen BOND version fitted with one. It has exactly the same 135×7 mm dimensions and an identical 70.0×4.0 mm engraving field; the only difference is the added touchscreen tip. If you do not need it, the classic BOND is the simpler choice.

Can the refill be replaced?

Yes. The refill is replaceable and in a standard size, so when the ink runs out you change the refill rather than throwing away the whole pen.

Can I order a refill colour other than blue?

Blue is standard. Black or red can be fitted for an additional charge, but that option is not in the calculator. Mention it when placing the order and we will confirm the details.

What marking method do you use on these pens?

Precise YAG laser engraving. The beam removes the top layer of lacquer or anodising and exposes the lighter metal beneath, so the mark is made in the barrel itself rather than applied to it.

Can the engraving be in colour, and which barrel suits it best?

Engraving is always single-colour: the shade comes from the metal exposed beneath the coating, so gradients, photographs and multi-colour logos are not possible - the mark has to be simplified to one colour first. On darker barrels a light engraving gives strong contrast and reads from a distance; on light and silver pens the effect is quieter. For strong contrast, choose a darker barrel.

Will the engraving rub off or fall away?

No. It is not a print or a layer of ink, so there is nothing to peel or wear off. The pen can spend months in a bag, pocket or drawer and the mark stays legible.

One-sided or two-sided engraving - which should I choose?

One side is plenty for most designs; a logo with a company name, or a name with a web address, fits the 70.0×4.0 mm field comfortably. Two sides help when you have two separate pieces of information and do not want to crowd them - a logo on one side, a web address, phone number or slogan on the other. The two-sided version costs more; switch the option in the calculator to see the difference.

How should the engraving file be prepared?

As a vector PDF in black only. Everything black will be engraved, the rest stays untouched. Convert text to curves so the typeface does not change when the file is opened. Avoid photographs and greyscale - the laser does not reproduce halftones.

I have no artwork ready - what then?

We will prepare it free of charge with an order placed with us. E-mail your logo, preferably in vector form, along with the text for the pen. Our designer will send a proof for approval; production starts only once it is accepted.

What is the minimum quantity, and why does the calculator change the number I enter?

The minimum is 100 pieces, with further steps at 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000. Pens are produced in multiples of 50, so any other figure is rounded up - 220 becomes 250.

What happens after I place an order?

First we prepare a proof of the marking and send it for your approval, so you can check the placement of the logo, text and other elements. Production starts only once the design is approved, and the lead time shown in the calculator runs from that moment. If the pens must be ready on a particular day, order early or confirm the date with us by e-mail.

My logo only exists as a JPG or PNG. Can it be engraved?

Engraving needs vector artwork, so such a logo has to be redrawn first. We offer that as a paid service, quoted individually according to how complex the mark is. Afterwards you get the logo in vector formats, usable on other materials too. Laying out the logo and text on the pen remains free of charge.

My logo is vertical, with the name under the symbol. How will it come out?

It is worth checking legibility before ordering. The field is long but only a few millimetres high, so a symbol, company name and additional line stacked vertically all become very small once scaled down, and small text suffers first. A horizontal logo makes much better use of the space. If your brand book has one, send that version; if not, our designer can arrange the same elements horizontally or suggest what to leave out. You will see a proof before production either way.
