Pendrive ODA - steel, a swivel and two connectors

The ODA settles two common annoyances: there is no separate cap to lose, and with two kinds of connector there is no hunting for the right adapter.

The casing is brushed steel - a cool metal surface with a more technical look than plastic models. A swivel mechanism protects the connectors: turn the body and pick whichever side you need.

One end carries standard USB, the other USB-C. The same drive plugs into a desktop, laptop, phone, tablet or newer notebook, provided the device supports external storage over USB-C.

Moving photographs from a phone to a computer, or material from a laptop to a mobile device, needs neither the cloud nor an adapter.

USB 3.2 gen.1 - faster with larger files

The ODA uses a USB 3.2 gen.1 interface, on a bus supporting up to 5 Gb/s.

Against USB 2.0 the difference shows most with larger files: video, photo folders, graphic material or extensive documentation.

Actual read and write speeds depend on the capacity, the memory used and the device the drive is connected to.

Small enough to carry

The ODA measures about 37×12×7 mm and weighs about 9 g - small enough for a pocket or a slim case. The metal frame also has a hole for a lanyard or a key ring.

On a drive this size that is a practical detail: instead of fishing it out of the bottom of a bag, you can clip it to something you carry anyway.

Who it suits

Sales representatives and field staff, keeping a current price list, presentation, catalogue and documentation on one drive; conferences and training, where many people now work mainly from phones and tablets and two connectors improve the odds of opening the files without an adapter; IT, service and engineering, for drivers, configuration files and technical documentation; photographers and film crews moving material between devices with different ports; and company sets and gifts, where the metal casing looks more solid than a typical plastic model.

Personalisation - laser engraving

The ODA is marked with laser engraving only.

The laser works directly on the metal surface. No extra printed layer is added that could peel or rub away, which makes it a very durable method.

On brushed steel the engraving comes out light and legible, and suits simple logotypes, company names, web addresses and short lines.

Two options:

• one-sided engraving,
• two-sided engraving.

The front marking area is larger than the reverse. A common arrangement is the logo on the larger surface with a web address or short slogan on the back.

Preparing the engraving file

• a vector PDF,
• vector graphics only,
• artwork in black,
• no greyscale,
• no shadows or halftones,
• all text converted to curves.

The black elements mark the areas to be engraved.

To check whether a logo really is vector, zoom in hard on screen: vector artwork stays sharp at any magnification.

• 64 GB - larger documentation, photography and extensive material sets,
• 128 GB - video, larger archives and project backups.

For basic sales material, 16 GB is usually ample. If the drive is to carry larger photo libraries or film, consider 64 or 128 GB.
