STARCO pens - A plastic promotional pen marked with full-colour digital UV printing, on one side or both. In our range the STARCO is one product in two barrel finishes: White, with codes beginning STW, and Metalic, with codes beginning STM. Both are chosen in the same calculator.

STARCO - one model, two finishes

The STARCO is a plastic pen marked with full-colour digital UV printing. It comes in two finishes, and the difference is where the colour appears.

In the White version the barrel is white and the clip is coloured. In the Metalic version the clip stays white, while the colour appears in subtle metallic inserts on the body.

Both are the same model, listed as one product and configured in the same calculator - you simply pick the finish from the available versions. Codes beginning STW mean STARCO White, and STM STARCO Metalic.

If showing your brand colours as faithfully as possible matters most, the White version gives a very good neutral background for full-colour printing.

Dimensions and print area

The STARCO is 137 mm long and 10 mm across. The dimensions are the same in both finishes, because the construction does not change.

The print area is 50.0×6.0 mm, identical on the White and Metalic versions - so the same design can be used on either.

Where it works

  • Multi-colour logos - full CMYK printing keeps brand colours that engraving would flatten.
  • Larger promotional runs - made for handing out in quantity.
  • One design, two looks - the same artwork fits both finishes.
  • Conferences and training - handed out with the materials and usually kept afterwards.
  • Welcome sets and mailings - a light addition to a pack or a parcel.

Full-colour UV printing

The ink is cured with UV light during printing, so the finished mark handles everyday use and contact with moisture and light, and needs no varnishing afterwards.

Unlike laser engraving on our metal pens, which is always single-colour, printing keeps a multi-colour logo, gradients, photographs and tonal transitions as designed.

One side or two

In the calculator you can choose one-sided or two-sided printing. One side usually covers a logo with the company name; the second is worth taking when you also want a web address, phone number or a short slogan. Two-sided printing costs more and needs two separate designs, one per side.

The file, the artwork and the proof

Prepare finished artwork in colour, in CMYK, at 1:1 scale, with text converted to curves.

No artwork ready? With an order placed with us we prepare it free of charge. E-mail your logo and the text that is to appear on the pen. Our designer will lay it out and send a proof for approval; production starts only once you accept it.

STARCO pens - questions and answers

What is the difference between STARCO White and STARCO Metalic?

Mainly where the colour appears. In the White version the barrel is white and the clip is coloured. In the Metalic version the clip stays white, while the colour appears in subtle metallic inserts on the body. They are two finishes of the same model, available in one calculator. Codes beginning STW mean STARCO White, STM STARCO Metalic. If showing your brand colours as faithfully as possible matters most, White gives a very good neutral background for full-colour printing.

Are White and Metalic two separate products?

Not here. STARCO White and STARCO Metalic sit in one product and share the same calculator - you simply choose the finish from the list of available versions. On other sites you may find the two finishes listed separately, but it is still the same pen, just presented differently.

What are the dimensions of the STARCO?

137 mm long and 10 mm across. The dimensions are the same in the White and Metalic versions, because the construction does not change.

How large is the print area?

50.0×6.0 mm, identical on STARCO White and STARCO Metalic - so the same design can be used with either finish.

How does the STARCO differ from your metal pens?

In the marking technology. Metal pens are laser engraved, and engraving is always single-colour. The STARCO is printed in full CMYK, so a multi-colour logo, gradients and tonal transitions survive as designed.

Can the logo be multi-colour, with a gradient or a photograph?

Yes. We print in full CMYK, so multi-colour artwork, gradients, tonal transitions and photographs are all possible, provided the source file is good quality.

Is the print resistant to water and sunlight?

The ink is cured with UV light during printing, so the finished mark handles normal everyday use and contact with moisture and light, and needs no additional varnish.

Can I have printing on both sides?

Yes. Choose two-sided printing in the calculator. It costs more and needs two separate designs, one for each side.

One side or two - which should I choose?

One side usually covers a logo with the company name. The second is worth taking when you also want a web address, phone number or a short slogan, instead of crowding everything into one field.

How should the print file be prepared?

In colour, in CMYK, at 1:1 scale, with text converted to curves. For two-sided printing, prepare two separate designs.

I have no artwork file - will you prepare a design?

Yes. With an order placed with us we prepare simple artwork free of charge. E-mail your logo and the text for the pen; our designer will lay it out and send a proof for approval.

How does the order proceed?

First we prepare a proof of the printing and send it for your approval, so you can check the placement of the logo and text. Production starts only once the design is approved, and the lead time shown in the calculator runs from that moment.

What is the minimum order?

100 pieces, in multiples of 50. The price steps in the calculator are 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000 and 2000 pieces.

Can I order 250 pieces?

Yes. 250 is a full multiple of 50, so the calculator will accept it and price it directly.

When does the lead time start?

From your approval of the proof, not from the day the order is placed. The current lead time appears in the calculator once you choose a configuration.

My logo only exists as a JPG or PNG. Is that enough?

For printing it can be, provided the file is good quality and large enough - printing reproduces raster images, unlike engraving. Send what you have and we will check whether it holds up at the size of the print area.

My logo is vertical, with the name under the symbol. How will it come out?

The field is 50 mm long but only 6 mm high, so stacked elements become small once scaled down and fine text suffers first. Our designer can move the line next to the symbol or propose a simpler arrangement. You will see the result on the proof before production.
